Canstruction 2021
The Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank (FRFB) is excited to announce the results of 2021’s Canstruction®, sponsored in part by Southpoint Quality Dental, Wawa Foundation, Bill Wyant Allstate Insurance Agency, Fredericksburg Food Co-op, Spotsylvania Towne Centre, PermaTreat Pest Control, and Macaroni Kid Fredericksburg. Canstruction® is the largest competition-style food drive in the United States.
For the past eight years, the food bank has hosted Canstruction®, where students and adults team up to enter the contest. An "official" team of five consists of students, teachers, volunteers & businesses, who compete to design and build giant structures made entirely from cans of food. Due to COVID precautions, this year participants were allowed to build at their preferred location and all voting took place online. Pictures of the designs will be on display at the Towne Centre throughout the month of April.
Through the collective efforts of those participating in Canstruction® 2021, the FRFB collected 8,644 pounds of food and generated resources sufficient to supply our community with nearly 15,300 meals. This event helps more people open their eyes to the troubling fact that not everyone has enough food to feed their entire family or access to sufficient nutritious options to live a fulfilling life. Thanks to the creativity of Canstruction®, we were able to raise awareness and feed our community, all this while having fun!
This year’s winners were Life Church DC Deacon Ministry for Structural Ingenuity and Most Cans, Teakwood Enterprises Inc. for Best Meal and Best Use of Labels, Women Build of Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity for Best Original Design, and WPER 90.5 for People’s Choice!
