For millions of Black families, putting food on the table is an ongoing struggle. In 2023, over 9 million Black people in the U.S. didn’t have enough food for a healthy, active life. The impact of food insecurity stretches far beyond empty stomachs—it affects health, education, and economic stability.

Health Disparities and Hunger
Food insecurity leads to higher rates of diabetes, heart disease, and obesity, as families often rely on cheap, unhealthy foods due to lack of access. Black communities already face higher healthcare disparities, making this issue even more urgent.

Education and Hunger
Hunger affects learning. Children who lack proper nutrition struggle with focus, memory, and academic performance. Black children, who already face systemic disadvantages, are further impacted when they don’t have enough to eat.

Solutions for Change

  • Supporting local food programs – Community-driven food distribution can help bridge gaps.
  • Investing in equitable policiesAddressing the root causes of hunger requires changes in wages, housing, and education.
  • Raising awarenessThe more people know about food insecurity in Black communities, the stronger our movement for food justice.

Food insecurity is solvable. By working together, we can ensure every Black family has access to the food they need.
