Sheetz For the Kidz Partners With Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank to Help Fight Child Hunger
The Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank (FRFB) announced that it is receiving a $12,000 grant from Sheetz For the Kidz, a charitable organization driven by the employees of Sheetz, Inc., to help provide hunger relief to children in the Fredericksburg area. The grant will be used to purchase food for the Kids on the Go summer feeding program.
As a result of the pandemic, the FRFB has seen an increased need within its service territory (the counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford, along with the City of Fredericksburg and the community of Locust Grove). Currently, an estimated 1 in 10 children in the region is struggling with hunger.
The FRFB helps to provide meals annually to over 14,000 children in need through its network of local agency partners including food pantries, school pantries, and meal programs. Among the 200 member food banks in the Feeding America network, FRFB is one of 27 food banks to receive this grant from Sheetz For the Kidz. It is projected that this grant will enable the food bank to provide the equivalent of 24,000 meals to children..
“Summer is traditionally one of the most challenging times of the year for families facing food insecurity,” said Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank President & CEO Dan Maher. “Many families lacking adequate food access rely on school-provided meals as a vital source of nutrition for their children, so this Sheetz For the Kidz grant is a well-timed boost to our feeding efforts during a high-demand season. I am grateful for their selection of our food bank as a funding recipient and for the impact this gift will provide.”
As a regional convenience store, Sheetz is committed to helping fight childhood hunger in the communities it resides in. Through this Child Hunger Grant, Sheetz For the Kidz is grateful to provide food banks with the opportunity to invest more resources towards their incredible work.
“More than ever, there is a need to address food insecurity in the communities in which we operate,” said Executive Director of Sheetz For the Kidz, Brittany Funcheon. “Through this donation, Sheetz For the Kidz will proudly support child hunger programs including Mobile and School Pantries, Backpack Programs, and Summer Feeding.”
