Throughout history, people in America have come together to drive meaningful change. This September, during Hunger Action Month, the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank (FRFB) is calling on our neighbors across the Central Rappahannock River Region to unite once again—to help end hunger in our local communities and across the nation.

“People across the country have demonstrated immense care for their neighbors in crisis time and time again, helping to build stronger, more resilient communities,” said Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, CEO of Feeding America. “Ending the hunger crisis in America is no different. When we all work together, alongside our neighbors facing hunger, we can find solutions to ensure that everyone has the food they need to thrive.”

Hunger is Rising—Locally and Nationally

Food insecurity in America has reached its highest level in more than a decade. Today, over 47 million people—including 14 million children—face hunger. Here in our region, the need is just as urgent:

  • In Caroline County, the food insecurity rate is 11.1%

  • City of Fredericksburg: 15%

  • King George County: 9.4%

  • Orange County: 11.9%

  • Spotsylvania County: 9.4%

  • Stafford County: 8.1%

With the recent passage of the largest cuts to SNAP and Medicaid in U.S. history, more families in our region will soon face even greater challenges accessing food and healthcare. But we believe this is a crisis we can solve—if we act together.

How You Can Help

This Hunger Action Month, the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank invites you to be part of the solution. Here’s how you can make a difference:

  • Host a food drive at your workplace, school, or place of worship. We’ll help you get started.

  • Donate online at www.fredfood.org to help us provide nutritious meals to neighbors in need.

  • Wear orange on Hunger Action Day, Tuesday, September 9, to raise awareness and show your support.

  • Volunteer at our warehouse, mobile pantries, or gardens—every hour makes a difference.

  • Share our posts and messages throughout the month to help spread the word.

“We are seeing more working families, seniors, and children turning to us for help—not because they want to, but because they have to,” said Dan Maher, President & CEO of the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank. “Hunger is closer than many realize. This September, we’re asking everyone in our community to take action—because together, we can close the meal gap and help our neighbors thrive.”
