It’s National Apple Cider Day, and here at the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank, it’s no surprise that apple cider is a staff favorite. After all, what’s not to love? With its cozy balance of tart and sweet, apple cider is the perfect fall drink, a warm cup of comfort that instantly makes the season feel brighter.

But while many of us enjoy sipping cider with friends, family, or coworkers, the reality is that not everyone has the luxury of indulging in seasonal favorites. For some, even the simple joy of a warm cup of apple cider can feel out of reach. That reminder grounds us in the work we do every day, ensuring that families in our community have access not only to the basics they need to thrive, but also to the foods and flavors that bring comfort, connection, and joy.

Food is More Than Fuel

A meal isn’t just about calories, it’s about dignity, tradition, and togetherness. That’s why the Food Bank works to provide a wide range of foods, from fresh produce and pantry staples to culturally meaningful items and seasonal favorites. When families are able to share foods that feel familiar, nourishing, and festive, it helps strengthen community bonds and provides more than just nourishment, it provides belonging.

How You Can Help

  • Volunteer: Help us get food from our shelves to the tables of families who need it most.

  • Donate: Every dollar makes a difference in making sure our neighbors have access to nourishing food.

  • Advocate: Share with friends and family why food access matters.

So today, as you enjoy a warm cup of apple cider, we invite you to take a moment of gratitude, and also a moment of action. Together, we can ensure that everyone in our community has the chance to enjoy not just food for survival, but food for the soul.

Here’s to apple cider, here’s to fall, and here’s to a community that cares.
