Ingredients
- 10 cups whole wheat bread cubes
- 1/3 cup water
- 1/2 cup onion, chopped
- 1/2 cup celery, chopped
- 1 tsp dried parsley (or 1 Tbsp fresh parsley)
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- Optional: 2 medium apples, chopped, or 1/4 cup raisins
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Place bread cubes in a large bowl.
- In a saucepan, cook onion, celery, parsley, salt, and pepper in water for 5 minutes. Pour over bread cubes.
- Stir in milk, egg, and optional apples or raisins.
- Spoon into a greased baking dish and bake for 1 hour.
