Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank Receives Grant from BJ's Charitable Foundation

(Fredericksburg, VA) August 28, 2021 – Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank today announced that it has received a donation of $15,000 from BJ’s Charitable Foundation Child and Family Feeding Capacity Building grant to help provide hunger relief to children and families in the Central Rappahannock Region. The funds will be used to purchase additional cold storage for produce, dairy, and meat in the warehouse.

The Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank, a member of the Feeding America® network, is one of 50 food banks to receive this funding from BJ’s Charitable Foundation.

“One of the biggest challenges we face as a food bank and that our community faces as a whole is sufficient storage for large volumes of refrigerated, fresh product,” said Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank President & CEO Dan Maher. “We are grateful that BJ’s is open to understanding that challenge and will be among those helping us address that issue by adding more capacity for fresh product in our warehouse. That’s a great sign of investment in our community.”

In the Central Rappahannock Region, one in 15 people and 1 in 12 children struggle with hunger. That’s over 31,000 people who are living in households that do not have access to the food they need to thrive. Due to COVID-19, the FRFB has seen many families receiving food assistance for the first time. Feeding America estimates that the percentage of hungry children in our area is as high as 16 percent in some portions of our region.
