Celebrating National Pie Day
I don’t know about you, but I love a good slice of pie. In fact, I think pie is one of the most undervalued desserts out there. When people talk about sweets, cake, cookies, and ice cream often take center stage, but pie deserves some love, too!
Think about it: pie is versatile, timeless, and always comforting. Whether it’s apple, pecan, pumpkin, or berry, there’s something special about pulling a warm pie out of the oven and topping it with a dollop (or maybe three scoops!) of whipped cream. A simple joy like that can turn an ordinary moment into a memory.
But here at the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank, we know that not everyone has the luxury of enjoying those simple moments. For many of the families and neighbors we serve, a slice of pie, or even the ingredients to make one, is not easily accessible. Something that feels like a small indulgence to many of us can feel out of reach to someone else.
Food is About More Than Full Plates
Pie reminds us that food is about more than just nourishment, it's about comfort, celebration, and connection. Everyone deserves the chance to share those experiences, and that’s why we are committed to making sure our community has access not only to the basics, but also to the foods that make life sweeter.
How You Can Help
-
Volunteer: Help us share food and joy with families across our region.
-
Donate: Even a small gift can help make special moments possible for our neighbors.
-
Advocate: Share the importance of food access with your friends and family.
So today, as you enjoy a slice of pie (whichever kind is your favorite!), take a moment to remember that food brings us together. And together, we can ensure that every neighbor has the opportunity to enjoy life’s simple joys.
Here’s to pie, and to making sure everyone gets a slice.
