What is it like to be a family living on the edge of poverty? This is the case for many families where the parents are working and still are having to make impossible choices.

Unfortunately, 55% of the people we serve have an income of less than $1,000 per month. But let's imagine you live with your partner, and together you have two children, ages 3 and 10. Your oldest child was born while you and your partner were in your senior year of high school. You work 20 hours per week in order to complete an Associates Degree, while your partner works 40 hours per week.

You both earn the federal hourly minimum wage of $7.25, bringing your family's income to $22,620/year. You will need to make impossible choices about housing, utilities, healthcare, food, transportation, and child care for your family.
