CANstruction
One Can Make A Difference. What a Wonderful Martin Luther King Day of Service Event – CANSTRUCTION!
In partnership with The Star Radio Group’s 99.3 The Vibe, the community joined Stafford County Public Schools’ Learn and Serve Program at the Spotsylvania Towne Centre last weekend for the 1st Annual Martin Luther King Day of Service Event - Canstruction.
Canstruction is an International Community Service Project competition to design and build colossal structures entirely out of canned foods. After the designs are built, the creations are on display to the public as a giant art exhibit and then donated to the area food bank.
Canstruction teams are comprised of students, teachers, area businesses, and community members. You don’t need to be an engineer, designer, or contractor to participate, just someone who has a willingness to get involved to assist others in need.
We had 10 entries this year and our plans are to double the participants for next year. If you are interested in participating in next year’s Canstruction please contact Dayna Klein, Marketing and Major Gifts Coordinator, 540-371-7666x131 or dklein@feedingamerica.org.
This year’s event will provide the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank with the much needed resources to support over 17,000 people monthly within the Planning District 16 which includes the counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline, King George, and the City of Fredericksburg as well as neighboring communities.
